The 26,000 SF Cancer Center addition maintains connectivity to the existing acute care hospital and radiation oncology center for a seamless continuum of care. The main floor supports a shared reception/waiting area serving both the existing radiation oncology and the new, 10-bay infusion chemotherapy facility. Treatment bays are organized around a centralized nursing concept with immediate access to medication, drug preparation and clinical support spaces. A healing garden was developed as a positive diversion for patients undergoing extensive treatment and to complement views into the adjacent County Forest Preserve. The second level includes a physician practice setting to support the Cancer Center on a referral basis and provides convenient access for return patients and families. The oncology program offers the most advanced clinical expertise and technology and the personal guidance necessary to combat cancer.
